Online Pornography and the Society
These are the insights we've achieved after brainstorming and discussing our global issue within our group:
“Social media eases the distribution of pornographic materials. Pornography ruins the psychological aspect of an individual.” -Philp Nodora
“Social Media has made pornography accessible anytime, anywhere and from anyone for free. Even children are very familiar with different forms of online pornography” - Tin Bejar
“If we think deeply, social media has more negative effects than positive effects. Not only in Online Pornography, but in other materials being uploaded in the internet, also. (security)” -Kim Cabrera
“Social Media has become a tool in contributing to the urge of individuals to satisfy themselves. Social Networking sites are very lenient when it comes to posting photos and videos online, which creates the urge of individuals to access porn sites and serve as a better reference for satisfaction.” - Koko Nery
"Pornography has entered social media and it has revolutionized how porn is being distributed so I dont think that social media can help prevent distributing pornography but it I think it did help to make pornography what it is today, easy to hide, easy to get." -Kenneth Lee
"Though many are against pornography still, some people are not against it because it still depends on the person's point of view and way of living." - Bertha Ledesma

How does social media affect promotion of Pornography
“The spread of pornography in the social media does injury to individuals and society and creates an urgent problem requiring realistic responses from many persons and groups."
Since social media contributes a lot in promoting online pornography it has created certain issues and effects to our society:
Addicted to Masturbation
People addicted to porn are almost always addicted to masturbation. The sexual urges become so strong that masturbation becomes the easiest way of release.
Dissatisfied with your sex life
-Spouses of addicts are affected as sex does not satisfy the addict as it once did. Men who look at porn are dissatisfied by their wife's appearance and this often leads to dysfunctional relationships.
Escalated
-Addicts experience an ever-increasing lust and a craving for more intense porn. Eventually "soft-core" porn is not stimulating enough, which pushes them into "hard-core."
Judgement of women
-Women in porn are viewed as less than human, mere property, and something to compete for or conquer.
Prone to Animalistic Behaviour
-Those who view porn frequently have a greater tendency to act out those sexual behaviors on others, no matter what the cost. This may include rape, group sex, voyeurism, having sex with children, inflicting pain, etc.
How can we lessen the promotion of Online Pornography?
Web filters and blocking software
A variety of content-control, parental control and filtering software is available to block pornography and other classifications of material from particular computers or (usually company-owned) networks.
(Bess, Net Nanny, SeeNoEvil, SurfWatch, and others)
How to prevent children from accessing pornographic materials online?
Parents should be aware of the adult filter to lock pornographic material from their computers, preventing their child from accessing pornography and other inappropriate material. They should also specify specific hours or days that their child is allowed to use the Internet. The Focus on the Family website recommends making sure an adult is present during these usage hours. Parents must put the computer in a common space instead of in your child's room. This way, they can be sure that their children does not access pornography while he is on the Internet.
How to prevent yourself from accessing pornographc materials online?
It's easy to prevent Online pornography from children, but how about the adults and young adults that has the privilege to access these sites? We have also identified certain ways to prevent yourself from Online Pornography:
-Don't spend time alone with the computer.
-Install a filter/history program on your computer that someone you trust can use to hold you accountable.
-Stick with reputable web sites.
-Be wary of sites that exist in countries with more lenient laws about Internet pornography.
-Be careful on going to any video sites like youtube; many videos there have at least soft porn. -Stay away; if you must see a video, watch that one and then leave. Don't browse around.
-DO NOT REGISTER FOR PORNOGRAPHIC SITES!
-Watch out for porn oriented spam in your email. Filter and block it. Change your email address if it won’t stop.
What other things the society can do to lessen the promotion of online pornography?
- Schools should block the porn sites to their system
- Report pornographic websites especially those that involves child pornography
- The government should pass a law regarding this issue (online pornography/child pornography) to prevent the exploitation and distribution of sex online.
Based on our research we have concluded that Social Media, in this issue, contributes a lot in making Online Pornography more widespread. It made Pornography accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere. Since it's almost accessible to all and is inexpensive as well, made a great impact to our society. Families, school, relationships, judgement, and even children is very much affected in this issue. It is impossible to prevent and terminate such issue for it is the social media we are dealing with. For social media have created a huge impact and influence to our society already.

Use of Collaboration Tool and Report Summary
Objectives:
Learnings:
1. Google Docs
Google docs is the most popular and most convenient online collaboration tool that the group agreed to use. Since we have used this in some of our subjects in the past and we know how this tool works, the group unanimously decided to use this as our collaboration tool. It has real time editing that enables the members to contribute to the document simultaneously which is a good thing. This makes our discussion easier and more productive.
A problem may be situated here is its complexity. Some people may have a hard time using Google docs for collaboration. Though it also looks like a Microsoft Word document, some people may still find it confusing because of its complex settings like formatting as the document differs when it is transferred to Microsoft Word.
2. Facebook Group page
As students and teenagers, we are fond of using Facebook everyday. It has been part of our routine to check our Facebook accounts. So we have thought of creating a group page for SOCMED so that we would be aware of the assignments, seat works, projects and deadlines for SOCMED. This has been very effective, for you cannot only post announcements and tasks but also, you can communicate with your group mates as well.
Facebook group page is also similar to Google Docs. Facebook allows a group to create a document and allow its members to edit everything in it. But compared to Google Docs, Facebook is limited when it comes to features. You cannot know who edited a part, limited font settings, limited style settings and a whole lot more.
Facebook Group page also allows you to post links, photos, videos and poll questions for the members to have a better grasp of a tackled topic or an issue.
Another negative issue with Facebook pages is that, there are instances members are not focused on the work already. They tend to browse other Facebook pages, games and other applications. It may be distracting for users who don’t know how to focus or users who easily get bored.
3. Yahoo Messenger (Conference)
Yahoo Messenger is used as a meduim of communitcation as it is a chat application and all of the group members uses this softaware . also in yahoo messenger there is a feature that can be called as a collaboration tool since it connects different user to one chat room to collaborate and that is as they call it, Conference. using the conference feature many users can interact with each other with chat and voice call.
Limitations of using yahoo messenger is that if the user is not online you cannot chat with your contacts in the conference.
Another issue regarding Yahoo Messenger is that when a user gets disconnected, the user will be disconnected in the conference as well. You have to invite the user again, and since the user’s offline, he or she will miss everything and have to ask members what he or she missed. It takes a lot of time and effort for the group trying to explain everything again.
Conclusion:
Nowadays, students are always online in the internet world. Collaboration tools contributed a huge part to students' collaborations with their school work. Though at first, some collaboration tools are hard to use, students gradually learn how to use a certain collaboration tool and know its advantage/s. By using collaboration tools, students are able to work together efficiently and effectively. Moreover, students do not need to meet up in person anymore. Students can use collaborative tools in doing their reports/homework/projects at home.
- To be able to identify several collaboration tools and be able to use them in our projects, not only in our SOC-MED class but in other subjects as well.
- To be able to identify possible complications and difficulties using a certain tool in collaboration.
- To be able to work together efficiently and effectively even if we can’t meet in personal and even if we have different and complex schedules.
- To be able to compare different collaboration tools and identify which tool best suits our needs as a group.
- To be able to recommend collaboration tools applicable depending on the task our group needs.
- To promote the maximization of various social media tools in every way possible
